Ahudiyannem Queens Football Club of Abiriba announced their debut in the Nigeria Women Football League with a goalless draw against Remo Stars Ladies of Ikenne at the Umuahia Township Stadium.

In a pulsating encounter that drew spectators from Abiriba and other parts of the State, the hosts gave the experienced Ikenne Land Ladies a run for their money as they put up a spirited display in their debut NWFL season.

Whatever the hosts threw at the Remo Stars Ladies, they got a response from the visitor’s attackers who were a handful for the defence line of the Abiriba Queens.

The visitors began to assert their authority in the early stages of the second half after their gaffer, Wemimo Mathew, made some changes to her playing staff.

The substitutions nearly paid off for the visitors at the half-hour mark as substitute Deborah Kehinde found herself in a one-on-one situation, but the Queens’ goal tender, Eboth Drax, was quick to snuff out the danger.

The introduction of Chioma Chiamaka and Praise Agba swung the tide in favour of Ahudiyannem as they began to pile pressure on the visitors.

The hosts came close to breaking the deadlock in the 80th minute with a long-range effort by Chioma Chiamaka, but the visitors’ goalkeeper, Nkiru Obidimma, showed composure to parry the ball to safety.

Nonetheless, despite all their effort to nick in a goal, Remo Stars Ladies brought their experience to bear as they held on for a goalless draw in the opening day fixture of the Nigeria Women Football League.
