NUJ, Abia Council Inaugurates Short Story Competition, Inside Story Magazine, Committees

In a bid to create content and contribute to national development, the Abia State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) has inaugurated two committees, 1st Abia NUJ Short Story Competition for Secondary Schools and the Editorial Board of Inside Story Magazine.
Chairman of the Council, Comrade Chidi Asonye, made the announcement during the monthly Congress of the Council for the month of April 2025 at the Press Centre, 66 Aba Road, Umuahia.
The 1st Abia NUJ Short Story Competition for Secondary Schools has Mr. Emmanuel Ugwu as Chairman with Chinenye Iwuoha as Secretary, while Chukwuma Emele, Imeremba Michael Imeremba, and Juliet Onyebuchi will serve as members.
The Editorial Board of Inside Story Magazine Committee include Ezeogo Boniface Okoro as Chairman, with Nwamara Chekube as Secretary. Other members include Daniel Maduagwu, Steve Oko, and Grace Iheke.
Announcing the names of the members of the committees during Congress-in- Session, Comrade Chidi Asonye said the essence of establishing the committees is to make the Council active and relevant, as partners in the development of Abia state.
According to him, while the committee on 1st Abia NUJ Short Story Competition will serve as talent hunt and portray the good image of the Council and the State, the Inside Story Magazine will serve as the official publications of the Council.
Comrade Asonye said members of the committees were selected based on track record of competence and diligence to duties even as he called for support of journalists in the state to enable the committees to succeed.
Inaugurating the Committee on 1st Abia NUJ Short Story Competition, the National Treasurer of the Union, Comrade Victor Ndukwe urged them to see their appointment as a call to service and ensure that they tell the story of Abia NUJ to further create cordial relationship with the public.
On his part, Comrade Ogbonnaya Iheaka, the pioneer Chairman of the Council urged the Editorial Board Of Inside Story Magazine to be guided by the ethics of the
profession in discharging their duties.In their various responses, Chairmen of the two committees, Ezeogo Boniface Okoro and Mr Emmanuel Ugwu described the establishment of the committees as noble innovations.
They thanked the Chairman for finding them fit to serve and pledged to work diligently to deliver on their mandate.
