No Bomb was Recovered in Abia Church – Police Clarifies

Abia State police command has clarified that no bomb or explosive was recovered from a church premises in Aba.

Reports on various social media platforms had emerged yesterday claiming that a large metal object suspected to be an unexploded bomb during fence reconstruction work at the United Evangelical Church, Ehere/Umuola, Ogbor Hill, Aba.

The reports further claimed that the priest in charge of the church had alerted the military base in the area who responded swiftly to evacuate the object.

Reacting in a statement, the police said thorough investigations conducted through the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) covering the area affirmed that nothing of such happened.

The statement signed by Maureen Chinaka, Public Relations Officer of the police in the State, disclosed that the church which had encroached on the road currently being reconstructed by the government, failed to comply with the directive to move back slightly to create space for the project.

It added that the failure to comply with the directive, prompted the military intervention to ensure compliance, disclosing that during the process, an iron rod part of a pillar of the church structure that was being adjusted was removed by the military.

The statement made it clear that, there was nothing resembling a bomb or explosive recovered anywhere in Aba.

It however maintained that, the Police, as the lead internal security agency, remain vigilant in ensuring the protection of lives and property.
