Ex Rivers Governor, Amaechi, Uniport Alumni, Express Pride in Otti’s Achievements in Abia

A delegation of Governor Alex Otti’s alumni members from the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has applauded his achievements within 22 months in office.

The delegation, made up of former students who graduated from Uniport between 1980 and 1989, spoke to newsmen after a tour of some road projects embarked upon by the Governor.

One of them, a former Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, who said, they were in Abia for their reunion meeting, expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Governor.

“Seeing is believing. This is incredible, the Port Harcourt Road. The last time I came here was when we came to campaign for former President Muhammadu Buhari. There was a whole lot of refuse and then gullies not potholes.

“For him (Otti) to transform the place to what it is, then we must congratulate him.”

The former Governor appreciated the quality of work delivered and the ongoing work at the Omenuko bridge, and wondered why the bridge was left like that by those who governed the State before him.

“So what the governor has done (in Omenuko bridge) is to intervene. In fact, what I saw there, that is the old bridge, was almost like a death trap, not only was it narrow it was like a bridge that happened during the civil war.

“Now again you ask yourself why was that bridge left like that all these years. Again I hear people died there in the 70s and 80s and it was left like that.

“You will ask whether those who came before him were not governors of Abia. They should have been able to shoulder that responsibility.”

Amaechi also wondered where and how the Governor sources the funds he is using for the numerous projects without borrowing.

“The question to ask is how is he getting his money. Where did he get the money to be able to execute these projects because I know that one of the complaints, and I know it is genuine complain, that some of these governors from the smaller states make is that they don’t have money. And it is true they don’t have money. Alex must tell us where he is getting money,” Amaechi stressed.

Also, a retired diplomat of Nigeria, Hon. Ernest Rowland Douglas, Dr. Chidi Ulelu and Mr Duke Odinde, having gone round and saw quality work being done by the Governor, described him as, “a homeboy” worthy colleague whom they are proud of.

They said they have come together to canvas support for Governor Alex Otti for the good work he is doing in Abia and urged the people to cue solidly behind him.

They expressed optimism that the Governor has more to give to the people, assuring that he would not get satisfied until Abia people are satisfied.

Conducting the team round the project sites, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Calab Ajagba attributed the infrastructural transformations to prudent management of funds, zero-tolerance for corruption, integrity and good governance.

“Beyond whatever thing anybody can say, you can not take its away from him (Gov. Otti) that he is prudent

“He has zero-tolerance for corruption and whatever thing that comes, if you must spend, the end result must be justified.

“So what we are seeing today is prudence, integrity, good governance. I believe that if other governors can borrow a leaf from him, I think Nigeria will be a better place.

“So, that people are asking where he is getting the money from, it is the same allocation like everybody and again prudence, integrity and then visionary leadership is what you are seeing playing out in this new Abia under Governor Alex Otti,” Ajagba maintained.

The delegation toured few road projects, including Umuahia – Uzuakoli – Akara – Abiriba -Ohafia sections 1,2 & 3, Omenuko bridge, Library Avenue (Bank road), Aguiyi Ironsi Boulevard, Port Harcourt road, Aba among others.
