Abia Govt Plans to Extend Mass Transit Services to Hinterland LGAs

Abia State Government has said that its mass transit services will soon be extended to hinterland local governments such as Arochukwu, Umunneochi, and Ukwa East.

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu disclosed this while briefing newsmen after this week’s executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti.

Kanu noted that the idea is to ensure that rural dwellers enjoy the same quality services as residents of Aba, Umuahia, and Ohafia.

In another development, the State Government approved to embark stronger enforcement of traffic rules across the state.

According to the Commissioner offenders targeted are those driving against traffic, traffic light violators, touts in motor parks, and individuals extorting traders, particularly in Ngwa Road Market.

Offenders will face prosecution, while those involved in extortion are given a final chance to desist.

Responding to questions, the Commissioner for Transport, Dr Chimezie Isaac Ukaegbu reaffirmed that the first batch of 40 buses will arrive in November this year.
