Umahi Sets Completion Date for Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, Applauds Tinubu’s Commitment, Otti for Support

Minister of Works, David Umahi, has assured that the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the 56.10-kilometer Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway Section II (Umuahia–Aba) will be completed and commissioned by June 2025.

Speaking during an inspection tour of the ongoing road projects in Aba, the Minister praised Tinubu’s administration for ensuring adequate funding for the project through provisions in the 2024 and 2025 budgets.

Umahi also commended the support of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, saying that his swift intervention in clearing traders and vehicles off the road has significantly accelerated construction progress.

He noted that this action would enhance the durability of the road and facilitate timely completion.

The Minister expressed satisfaction with the quality of work executed by Arab Contractors (Nig.) Ltd, maintaining that “they are very available to receiving and obeying instructions.”

He directed the contractor to finalize the remaining two kilometers of earthwork and four kilometers of asphalt work by the end of April.

The Minister reiterated that there were penalties for substandard projects and added that cement technology is still the best option for all Nigerian roads.

He, however, urged the people of the South East to recognize Tinubu’s contributions to the region, stating that no previous administration had invested in the area as much.

He called for unwavering political support in 2027, emphasizing that the president had demonstrated genuine commitment through tangible projects.

“What happened before will not happen again,” Umahi said, reinforcing his belief that the region should rally behind Tinubu in appreciation of his developmental strides.
