Oku Ibom Ibibio Urges Women to Uphold Family Values, Promote Moral Excellence

Oku Ibom Ibibio and the President General of the Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers has called on women across all strata to cherish and uphold family values, foster community and social harmony and promote moral excellence, integrity, and character development among individuals, especially the younger generation.

His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Etuk, JP, CFR, gave the charge while hosting a delegation from Family Empowerment and Youth Re-Orientation Path-initiative (FEYReP), a non profit organization based in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, and the Nigeria Women Trust Fund, Abuja, at his palace in Ikot Ukobo, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, on March 19, 2025.

According to the referred monarch, family values and ethical excellence should be prioritized in daily life, as it form the foundation for every child in the society. He added that women and mothers play vital roles in nurturing and instilling these values in children from home, thereby shaping the next generation and contributing to the well-being of our state and nation – Nigeria.

The Paramount ruler, while underscoring the importance of family values, exhorted career-driven and aspiring women to uphold these essential core values, encompassing proper child upbringing and effective home management, which are deeply ingrained and fundamental to the fabric of African culture.

“First and foremost, I give God the glory for a day like this, when I tried to figure out FEYReP then and now, Golden Initiative For All (GIFA) in the State, it’s interesting to know that they pursue same goal, that is, to ensure that our women gain more places in governance, but the critical aspect is how to maintain your roles at home, in order to have successful and responsible children in the society,” Oku Ibom Ibibio stated.

He thus urged every woman to regard motherhood as a sacred, primary assignment bestowed upon them by God, and our cultural norms, emphasizing that by embracing the role positively, they would help shape a brighter future, cultivating a virtuous and responsible generation to come.

Oku Ibom Ibibio assured the delegation of his support, as well as that of the traditional institution in the state, towards the empowerment of women in achieving their dreams.

Speaking earlier, Mrs. Amayo Umoh, Media/Press Secretary of FEYReP, and Oluwatoyin Omoyemi, Program Officer of the Nigeria Women Trust Fund, commended Oku Ibom Ibibio for his steadfast support of women’s growth and development at both state and national levels.

They praised his commitment to empowering women and briefed him on the 35% affirmative action initiative. The duo sought his royal backing and partnership, as well as that of the traditional institution in the state, to promote women’s empowerment through awareness campaigns, targeting rural women.
