NIPOST Engages Stakeholders to Implement and Drive Federal Government Postal Tag Initiative in Abia

The Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department of the Postal Service (NIPOST) in Abia State, on Friday, held a successful strategic stakeholders engagement in partnership with Touch and Pay (TAP) Technologies Ltd, Abia State Ministry of Transport, Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) Abia State Cooperative Union and Association of Mass Transit Owners to implement and test Market Postal Tag Digital Initiative in Abia.

On behalf of the Postmaster General of the Federation/CEO (NIPOST), Ms Tola Odeyemi, the state Postal Manager Mr Danjuma N. Amos and the State Regulatory Officer, Mrs Ngozi Chikwere, met the State Ministry of Transport and some executives and representatives of different transport unions in Abia State.

The purpose of the meeting was to sensitize the concerned stakeholders about the commencement of the digital initiative by NIPOST called “Postal Tag”

The NIPOST consultant, Touch and Pay Technologies who was represented by Mr Mishael Kalu, emphasized that this NIPOST Postal Tag digital initiative is for safety and security of commuters nationwide.

He further stated that the implementation of this new initiative will curb the movement of arms and contrabands which most usually pass through the informal transport courier and logistics system.

He also emphasized that the era of customer’s distrust due to loss of parcel, thefts, pilfering, broaching, unethical sharp practices, and unprofessional conducts in the sector will be a thing of the past.

Goods, waybills, parcel, Express, Courier and Logistics Services at the motor parks and garages nationwide will be adequately regulated in compliance with the appropriate section of NIPOST Act, Cap 127 LFN 2004, the Courier and Logistics (OPERATIONS) regulatory guidelines 2020, and other relevant extant laws.

He reiterated that the digital initiative by NIPOST is a delivery solution for connecting communities, for business standardization, to simplify courier and logistics services and to ensure the safety and security of customers’ packages, parcels, or packets nationwide.

The new “Postal Tag” digital initiative will enable easy traceability of customers item and allows for a free passage at the various check points by the Nigerian Police, NDLEA, or Customs on the highway nationwide.

Responding, the stakeholders applauded NIPOST Postal Tag initiative and promised to put up all the machinery to work with NIPOST, its consultants and agents across the state to ensure a smooth implementation of this initiative.

The meeting ended on a high note as Abia State will also be recorded among the first state to commence the implementation of this initiative in South Easterner Nigeria.

the Assistant Chief Transport Officer, Mr Ekpe David Abangwu, Comrade Emmanuel Ogbonna, the State Chairman of the Association of Mass Transit Owners, Comrade Victor Nwacham of the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners who represented the State Chairman, Comrade Amaobi Ohaeri and Hon Chisom Offor of Cooperative Union, who represented Comrade Chukwuma Azode.
