Abia State Government has promised to assist the Nigerian Army in sensitizing the youths on the need to get enlisted into the Force.

Governor Alex Otti made the pledge in Government House Umuahia, while receiving in audience, a delegation of the Year 2025 Nigerian Army Recruitment Awareness Team, from Army headquarters, Abuja.

The Team leader, Brigadier General Chima Ekeator, said they were in Abia State on a sensitization mission to the youths from the South East to take up the slots allocated to the zone in the Nigerian Army recruitments.

Ekeator said the leadership of the Nigerian Army having observed that the slots allocated to the South East states were barely taken up by applicants from the region, decided to create the awareness for those concerned to consider making use of the opportunities.

He regretted that the region is loosing out during recruitment exercises, citing a case of last year where on 53 slots out of the almost 200 allocated to Abia were taken up, revealing that it is the same with other Southeastern states.

While noting that the Nigerian Army was working to change the narrative, he informed that they had gone round and held town hall meetings with traditional rulers and Mayors tof Local Government Areas to ensure the message reaches the target audience.

Receiving the Team on behalf of the Governor, Chief of Staff, Pastor Calab Ajagba said that State government would set up the necessary structures to make sure that those that fall within the age bracket of recruitment were sensitized.

“We will also pass the information to youths who are within the catchment group, being targeted for this exercise. One thing we can assure you (the Nigerian Army) is that, going forward, this sensitization is going to become more regular,” he stated.

He commended the Nigerian Army for its interest in ensuring that the South East and indeed every part of the country is fully integrated into the Nigerian Army, pointing out that everybody has a role to play to make sure that the goal of sensitizing Abia youths in enlisting into the Nigerian Army is actualized.
