Icon Builders International Schools Holds Maiden Inter-house Sports Competition

Icon Builders International Schools has held Maiden Inter-house Sports with a charge for Private school owners to join hands with government in the development of sports and sporting activities in schools.

A sports enthusiast, Barr. Matthew Okonkwo who gave the advice during the maiden edition of Icon Builders International Schools inter house competition held at the Umuahia Township Stadium.

Barr. Okonkwo said will help to identify students with sporting talents and nurture them to become future stars.

He regretted that inter-house sports competition has long been forgotten in schools even with so many private schools available, and commended Icon Builders for taking the lead in reviving it.

He called on other schools to emulate Icon Builders International Schools by reviving inter-house sports competition adding that it helps to identify children with sporting talents.

The legal practitioner who also operates a football academy, disclosed that he had identified pupils with good footballing talents that he would absorb into his academy to develop.

Also speaking, Proprietress, Icon Builders International Schools, Tpl Vivian Uju Uwaga while noting that this is their maiden edition of inter-house sports for the school, said the School will make the competition an annual event.

Mrs Uwaga disclosed that her school is collaborating with Abia State Sports Council to develop the talent of pupils in sports adding that some of the children have started training with the sports council in handball, basketball and other games.

“As a sports enthusiast, I believe that children can find their footing in sports. I believe that with sports they can become better, with sports they can make their parents proud.”

She said that Icon Builders International Schools has been participating in the Abia State Governor’s cup and expressed optimism that they would make the list of those who would represent the State in any Youth Games in few years time.

The school Proprietress described Icon Builders International Schools as a place that helps to nurture, mould and build the children, as well as assist those who are struggling academically to come up to certain level.

“Icon Builders International Schools is a school that we started in September 2022. We’re located at Umuokeyi Afaraukwu off Locust Housing Estate, we have Nursery Primary and Secondary.

“It’s a school where we believe that no child is waste, no child is not good, you can make good out of any child. We also believe in talents because we know that can take people to places. We decided to do this inter-house sports competition 2025, our first one as a school. We’re just starting and we believe that we can discover talents here today in athletics, and other sporting activities. So we’re grooming them to come up believing that education can also be done outside of the classroom.”

The event featured both track and field events including match past, calisthenics, filling the basket, egg and bag race, among others with the blue house taking the overall first.
