Akwete Cloth to be Commercialised by Abia Govt – Otti

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has disclosed that the State government will commercialise the production of the traditional Akwete cloth popular with the Ndoki people of Ukwa East Local Government Area of the state.

Otti made this known at his Nvosi country home in Isiala Ngwa South LGA while playing host to a delegation from Ukwa East, led by the Mayor of the LGA, Pastor Chibunna Akara.

Otti, who thanked the delegation for the gift of the Akwete cloth presented to him, said the Office of the wife of the Governor had been promoting the fabric beyond Africa, even to the United Nations General Assembly.

The Governor pointed out that anyone who is privileged to hold public office must understand that everything is about the welfare and happiness of the people.

According to him, he only belonged to one political party called Abia State, adding that everything he does is to promote the welfare and happiness of the Abia people.

He used the opportunity to announce that the general hospital approved for Ukwa-East would be delivered this year, informing that the flag-off ceremony of the construction would soon take placeç.

Earlier, the Mayor of Ukwa East LGA, Chibunna Akara, informed the governor that he came with present his people who had defected from the Peoples Democratic Party into the ruling Labour Party in the state.

Speaking also,the member representing Ukwa East State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Lewis Obianyi, said he is joining the Labour Party (LP), because of Governor Otti’s all-inclusive, impactful and verifiable good governance model in the State.
