Abia Free Bus Services Continue until February Ending – Ukaegbu

The Abia State Green Shuttle Electric Bus Service has extended its free bus services till the end of february.

The State Commissioner for Transport Dr Chimezie Ukaegbu disclosed this in an interaction with newsmen at the end week’s executive Council meeting in Umuahia.

Ukaegbu also dismissed allegations that the buses have started collecting transport fare from passengers, re-emphasising that the Mass transit will run at subsidised rates when it eventually commences full operation.

“Initially we intend to start charging transport fare from next month but it has been extended till February and of course even if we have to charge it has to be subsidised,” Ukaegbu said.

On the rush to board the buses, Dr Ukaegbu said measures have been put in place to ensure orderliness in the parks, adding that the ministry of transport is collaborating with FRSC, Abia State traffic agency and homeland security to carry out sensitization programme in motor parks. on the use of bus shelters and operations of the electric buses.

“If you go to Aba, the Ministry of Transport in conjunction with Abia State Traffic Management Agency, Federal Road Safety Corps and Homeland Security; we have set up sensitisation in Aba and today we are going to carry out another one to sensitise the park operators, drivers and other road users; after sensitisation, we will now start enforcement.”
